Bowel Cancer Initiative

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer diagnosis in the UK and the second biggest cause of cancer deaths.

The Bowel Cancer Initiative is a two-year collaborative programme between Bowel Cancer UK and the Wales Cancer Network, led by Professor Jared Torkington. The programme aims to improve outcomes and patient experience for people living with colorectal cancer in Wales.

The priorities of the programme have been re-evaluated in order to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on patient outcomes.

As of November 2020, the key workstreams of the Bowel Cancer Initiative are:

  • Peer Review 2020/21
  • FIT-10 service evaluation
  • Patient listening events – ‘Listen Together’
  • Stoma reversal – Summit project
  • Patient and clinical engagement
