Cancer Buddies

Anyone in primary care can take on the role of Cancer Buddy, however this role is aimed at non clinical staff or health care assistants.

A Cancer Buddy is a person who is passionate about supporting the cancer patient throughout their cancer journey to ensure they have access to the information and support they need.

The role of a Cancer Buddy involves:

  • Signposting patients and their families to relevant information and resources 
  • Supporting the role of the person carrying out Cancer Care Reviews
  • Accessing cancer information and resources for the surgery to use
  • Acting as a point of contact for patients living with cancer throughout their cancer journey
